Obituary

Lantern was a content management system written in PHP in the spring of 2011, when writing your own content management system was still considered a reasonable weekend.

It grew a template language, a plugin folder, and a user table with one row. By 2014 every client it was built for had moved to a hosted page builder, and the commits thinned to one a season.

The last one is dated 2 February 2015. One installation is still running on a shared host. It belongs to a dentist, and it has not been updated since.

What it taught me

Software outlives the interest of whoever wrote it. Write the admin password down before the interest goes.
